My dad’s birthday is today and I think he’s really excited about turning 53.
I wasn’t sure what to give him. He loves a good steak from Saltgrass and he prefers activities over things, but that’s what I give him every year.
I decided to do something different this year.
I’m writing this post for you, dad!
One day many years from now, Derek, Haylee, and their future kids may come across this and have one additional reminder of how special you are.
The decisions you made forever changed our family tree for the better and the ripples of those decisions will be felt for generations to come.
I won the ultimate lottery when I was born in this great country and I have my Dad to thank.
Imagine growing up in a poor family, from a poor town, in a poor country and you simply want more for your family than the cycle of poverty that surrounds you.
He wanted better for his family and did something about it!
He immigrated to the U.S. with his version of the American dream in his heart. It is because of him that my brother, sister, and I now have the opportunity to pursue our dreams.
Words don’t adequately capture the struggle and perseverance of his story, but I hope it’s a good start.
Happy 53rd Birthday!
Enjoy it because 54 will be here before you know it!
I hope he likes my gift this year.
I got him something else just in case, but you can’t tell him what it is…
